I love Kubo Tite’s coloured pages. They show his characters in a variety of out-of-character attires and situations, but never-the-less manages to keep them cool. I’d like to see some of the less popular characters though - can’t argue against Ichigo, since he’s the protagonist, but Renji and Urahara appears too often. Where’s my Soi Fong, Uruu-chan, or Isshin?

Interesting article I came across today. It has absolutely nothing to do with anime, but hey, this site is called “Everything and Nothing” right? And for everyone who uses the internet, especially anyone who spends a lot of time on the net instand messaging, this article is really worth a read. There are also really cute illustrations, if that’s any incentive.

7 Reasons Why the 21st Century is Making You Miserable from Pointless Waste of Time.

The first two about annoyance are kind of “Meh”, but then the article goes on to talk about the new methods of communication that are unique to the 21st century, and I agree with all the things that are said. Face-to-face communication is irreplacable. No matter how well you think you know someone, no matter how well you think you understand them over the internet, it is impossible to fully comprehend what is being said, because important things like body language and tone are missing. When you’re reading something on IRC, Live Messenger or AIM, the tone of voice you’re hearing in your head is most likely not the tone of voice that the person talking intends.

The next point on the media is also kind of “Meh”, but the last point about the actual interaction with real life friends also really hits home, especially in a society where popular culture celebrates selfishness in the guise of “individual freedom”.

On text communication and criticism

With text, you can respond when you feel like it. You can measure your words. You can pick and choose which questions to answer. The person on the other end can’t see your face, can’t see you get nervous, can’t detect when you’re lying. You have almost total control and as a result that other person never sees past your armor, never sees you at your worst, never knows the embarrassing little things about yourself that you can’t control. The unspoken but shared quirks and humiliations and vulnerabilities that real friendships are built on.

On physical interaction

It ain’t rocket science; you are a social animal and thus you are born with little happiness hormones that are released into your bloodstream when you see someone else benefitting from your actions. You can line up for yourself a spread of your favorite liquor, your favorite video game, your favorite movie and your favorite sex act, and the sum total of them won’t give you the same kind of lasting happiness you’d get from helping the cranky old lady down the street drag her garbage to the curb.

I’m working on some articles that are actually related to anime and manga, including the Bleach 238 review. I’m also going to start reviewing a larger range of manga, and maybe even write summaries - summaries, not putting entire chapters into words. Unfortunately I won’t be able to update regularly unless I’m on holiday, but that’s not too far away. Look forward to a return to the regular scheduled programming soon!

Quick, one paragraph reviews of the rest of the first episodes I’ve seen this season.

Coyote Ragtime Show
Pure, distilled action anime awesomeness. Cheesy yes, crappy no. Twelve robot gothic sisters with WoMD? Check. Strong, independant woman with giant mamaries? Check. Mysterious protagonist with cool sidekicks? Check. Girl with really, really annoying voice? Check. All the ingredients for a great season of fun and blowing shit up is there, how can this fail?

Zero no Tsukaima
I see a lot of people calling this Shakugan no Tsukaima or Zero no Shana. Regardless of how good Shana was, there is no reason to let the fact that the same voice actors are taking the lead together again cloud over this anime’s own brilliance (must admit I got strong Shana vibes when Louise said “Urusai!” though). This isn’t going to be a Suzumiya Haruhi, let alone a NGE, but as long as you watch it for its cheesy merits, you’ll enjoy it for what it is - a well produced, shallow, but ultimately enjoyable romantic comedy.

Muteki Kanban Musume
Made me laugh. Hard. So hard that I thought my spleen would come out. I love the OP - don’t bash this OP! It’s brilliant! I really don’t know why I love this so much, I mean, it’s bad. But in a good way. It’s bad but it’s good. Or maybe it’s so bad that it’s good. I don’t know, you know what I mean. This is a dark horse that might even win the best show of the season.

Tsuyokiss
I was tricked. This is just bad. I can’t even put my finger on why it’s so bad - the overly dramatic performance? The inane characters? The ridiculous setting? Whatever, dropped.

Honey and Clover II
I don’t like the new character designs; I prefer the first season’s which were more authentic to the manga. The substance is still there though, and that is what makes Honey and Clover so outstanding. They could replace the characters with Sesame Street puppets for all I care, I would still watch it. As long as Big Bird gets to play Hanamoto-sensei.

Long story short, it seems that my university’s network doesn’t like WordPress, and if I want to make posts I have to bring my laptop to uni, which is a hassle. So, there won’t be many new posts in the next couple of weeks. Hopefully I can find a way around it so I can post more frequently, and hopefully I can at least do 1 post a week.

In other news, I was chosen as one of the 15 in JP Meyer’s anime bloggers review, along side household names like JP himself, Hung and TJ Han. I felt my e-pen0r growing two extra sizes immediately. Whoever asked JP to write that article, mucho thankso to you!
